Q: What has been the biggest challenge in your engineering career so far?

The biggest challenge is learning quickly and adapting constantly. In companies like Kiewit, projects move extremely fast and deadlines are rigorous. You have to continuously learn, improve and evolve to keep up with industry expectations.

Q: Do you feel engineers are fairly compensated today?

A:
I am grateful for my current position and compensation, but honestly, I believe there is always room for growth. As engineers gain more experience and responsibilities, their compensation should evolve accordingly. Many professionals eventually adjust their career strategies to achieve better salary progression.

Q: Has inflation and the cost of living affected engineers as well?

A:

Definitely. Rising fuel prices, inflation and economic conditions affect everyone. Even when you have a stable career, you still feel the impact of higher living expenses and changing economic realities.

Q: Why do you consider civil engineering a promising career?

A:
Civil engineering is incredibly broad and versatile. You can work in transportation, structures, hydraulics, nuclear engineering, MEP systems, renewable energy projects and much more. The field offers opportunities in both design and field operations, which makes it exciting and flexible.

Q: What keeps you motivated despite the challenges?

A:
Knowing that the work we do contributes to society’s development is very rewarding. Infrastructure shapes communities and impacts people’s daily lives. That sense of purpose continues to motivate me every day.

Q: What final advice would you give future civil engineers?

A:
Take professional licenses and certifications seriously. Credentials like the P.E. license in the United States can significantly strengthen your career opportunities and credibility. Also, stay curious and committed to continuous learning because engineering constantly evolves.
